SILVER SPRING, MD – Within hours of election-night polls showing a comfortable lead in the race for Montgomery County Executive, Will Jawando announced Tuesday night that he will seek the presidency in 2028.
“I’ve contemplated serving as your county executive for the past four hours,” said Jawando, standing before supporters at his post-campaign party at Citizens and Culture on Georgia Avenue. “And now I’m ready to continue the important work of immediately running for the next office.”
Jawando, whose political résumé now includes campaigns for U.S. Congress, U.S. Senate, and apparently Commander-in-Chief, reassured supporters that he remains deeply committed to Montgomery County – at least until a more prestigious office becomes available.
Campaign aides confirmed that Jawando has already reserved the website JawandoForSomethingElse2028.com, commissioned polling in Iowa, and begun changing his policy positions to appeal to voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and other battleground states. Political analysts noted that the announcement surprised many voters who had assumed Jawando would spend at least one full workday in his new position before seeking another.
Councilmember Kristin Mink welcomed the news, saying she was thrilled to once again dedicate her time campaigning alongside Jawando instead of performing the mundane responsibilities of governing. “This is exactly why I got into public service,” said Mink while still trolling the social media accounts of people who didn’t support Jawando for county executive.
When asked for comment about the possibility of serving two full terms and remaining Montgomery County Executive until 2034, Jawando declined to comment right before breathing heavily into a paper bag.
