People’s Book Obtains Liquor License, Converts Self-Help Section Into Bar

TAKOMA PARK, MD – People’s Book announced that it will convert its self-help section into a bar after receiving approval for a liquor license from the county last week.

“We’ve had these books on the shelves for years, and frankly, we’re not seeing results,” said store owners Matt and Megan Bormet. “People keep buying The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, but they’re still giving a tremendous number of f*cks. At some point, you have to try something different.”

The new bar will feature a curated selection of wines, craft beers, and cocktails named after popular self-help titles, including How to Wine Friends and Influence People, and Who Moved My Chardonnay?

“We want to meet people where they are,” Matt explained. “And where they are is usually standing in front of the self-help section, wondering why their lives aren’t better despite owning six books about mindfulness.”

Some customers expressed concern that replacing books with alcohol might undermine the store’s mission of promoting literacy and personal development.

“I came here looking for a book about setting boundaries,” said local resident Karen Whitmore, already seated at the bar. “Now I’m three glasses into a conversation with a stranger about my mother. Honestly, this is the most progress I’ve made in years.”

People’s Book said it has no immediate plans to expand the bar, although it is considering replacing its business section with a casino and its cooking section with a pizza shop.
