TAKOMA PARK, MD – People\u2019s Book announced that it will convert its self-help section into a bar after receiving approval for a liquor license from the county last week.

\u201cWe\u2019ve had these books on the shelves for years, and frankly, we\u2019re not seeing results,\u201d said store owners Matt and Megan Bormet. \u201cPeople keep buying The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, but they\u2019re still giving a tremendous number of f*cks. At some point, you have to try something different.\u201d

The new bar will feature a curated selection of wines, craft beers, and cocktails named after popular self-help titles, including How to Wine Friends and Influence People, and Who Moved My Chardonnay?

\u201cWe want to meet people where they are,\u201d Matt explained. \u201cAnd where they are is usually standing in front of the self-help section, wondering why their lives aren’t better despite owning six books about mindfulness.\u201d

Some customers expressed concern that replacing books with alcohol might undermine the store\u2019s mission of promoting literacy and personal development.

\u201cI came here looking for a book about setting boundaries,\u201d said local resident Karen Whitmore, already seated at the bar. \u201cNow I\u2019m three glasses into a conversation with a stranger about my mother. Honestly, this is the most progress I\u2019ve made in years.\u201d

People\u2019s Book said it has no immediate plans to expand the bar, although it is considering replacing its business section with a casino and its cooking section with a pizza shop.
