TAKOMA PARK, MD \u2010 Local resident and self-described anti-capitalist activist Willow Fernleaf expressed excitement this week after receiving her new “People Over Profits” political yard sign, conveniently delivered to her doorstep by Amazon less than 12 hours after ordering it.

“I was worried it wouldn’t arrive before the weekend rally against corporate greed,” said Fernleaf while removing the sign from an Amazon-branded cardboard box. “Thankfully, I paid the extra $4.99 for overnight shipping. You can’t put a price on fighting late-stage capitalism.”

The sign, which prominently urges voters to “Reject Corporate Influence,” was purchased through an online store linked from a progressive political organization’s Instagram page. According to Fernleaf, she compared several options before selecting the one with free returns and a 4.8-star customer rating.

Neighbors reported seeing Fernleaf enthusiastically installing the sign while simultaneously asking Alexa to reorder organic fair-trade coffee pods.

“She’s very committed,” said one neighbor. “Last year she attended three separate protests against multinational corporations. She posted photos from all of them using her iPhone.”

When the irony of receiving a “Fight Corporate Power” yard sign via a same-day logistics network requiring warehouses, cargo jets, delivery vans, cloud servers, and hundreds of thousands of employees was pointed out, Fernleaf dismissed criticism of the apparent inconsistency.

“There’s a huge difference,” she explained. “When a corporation provides me with products and services I personally enjoy, that’s community empowerment. When a corporation does something I don’t like, that’s exploitation.”
