Budget cuts. Endless meetings. Group texts about leaf blowers that somehow turned into 47-comment debates about late-stage capitalism. It\u2019s been\u2026 a journey. So we\u2019re doing what any responsible hyper-local satire publication would do in a time of civic exhaustion: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re throwing a party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Takoma Torch 7th Anniversary Party<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udccd <strong>American Legion Post 41<\/strong> \u2013 911 Sligo Ave, Downtown Silver Spring<br>\ud83d\uddd3 Saturday, February 21<br>\u23f0 6:30 PM until the karaoke machine mercifully overheats<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, we are generously offering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83c\udf7a <strong>Free beer and wine<\/strong> (because nuance is hard, but merlot is easy)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83c\udf82 <strong>Free cake<\/strong> (7 years old, like the Torch, but fresher)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83c\udfa4 <strong>Karaoke<\/strong> (finally, a public comment period where no one cuts you off after three minutes)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s been a tough year. National chaos. Local chaos. The kind of chaos where you open the news and immediately consider moving to a remote village. This party is our chance to take our minds off the world &#8211; or at least loudly sing over it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019ve been reading the Torch since Year One or you just discovered us after angrily Google searching your councilmember&#8217;s contact info so you can send a complaint email, this night is for you. Local Experts. Activists. Bureaucrats. The guy who always emails \u201cReply All.\u201d Everyone is welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come raise a glass. Eat some cake. Sing something defiant, nostalgic, or wildly off-key.
