WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 In a move some are calling \u201ctreason against our generation,\u201d Nancy Pelosi stunned the nation’s Boomers this morning by announcing she will voluntarily retire from Congress despite still technically being alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the Capitol, veteran lawmakers clutched their pearls, pacemakers, and committee gavels in disbelief. \u201cYou don\u2019t leave<\/em> power,\u201d hissed an appalled Senator Chuck Grassley while slowly fusing with his Senate chair. \u201cYou wait for power to be pried from your cold, heavily-medicated hands. That\u2019s how the founders intended it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Boomers expressed alarm that Pelosi\u2019s decision might inspire others to consider relinquishing control rather than ruling until embalmed. \u201cThis sets a dangerous precedent,\u201d warned 78-year-old Susan Forbes, head of her HOA since the Reagan administration. \u201cIf she can retire, next thing you know someone under 65 will be allowed to chair a subcommittee.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pelosi tried to calm concerns, assuring her colleagues that \u201cretirement\u201d still includes fundraising, influence, and materializing behind future Speakers with a soft rustling of silk scarves and the faint smell of Werther\u2019s Originals. But the damage was done. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t how we do things,\u201d grumbled Senator Mitch McConnell, slowly turning to dust but still refusing to relinquish the floor. \u201cThe only way you should leave Congress is in a flag-draped coffin or if you\u2019re accidentally declared legally dead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
