WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite the unanimous opinion of legal scholars, historians, and kindergartners that the U.S. Constitution explicitly forbids Donald Trump from forming a monarchy, Congress has reacted to such a plan with much less certainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI mean, who\u2019s to say? The Constitution is very old, and like most Americans, I\u2019ve never actually read the whole thing,\u201d said House Speaker Mike Johnson. \u201cIs there really a rule that says the President can\u2019t crown himself and rule without a legislative or judicial branch? We need to take a closer look.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump made his royal proclamation early this morning on Truth Social, posting: \u201cI AM YOUR KING! A BEAUTIFUL KING! THE BEST! PEOPLE ARE SAYING I\u2019M EVEN BETTER THAN KING ARTHUR! Who, by the way, was a TOTAL WIMP! SAD!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the obvious unconstitutionality of Trump\u2019s claim, some in Congress are hesitant to challenge him. \u201cLook, we don\u2019t want to jump to conclusions,\u201d said Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL). \u201cSure, he\u2019s wearing a Burger King crown and demanding we address him as \u2018Your Majesty,\u2019 but this is what everyday, hard-working Americans voted for. Let’s see where this goes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As expected, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) expressed serious concerns about Trump\u2019s latest move while also doing nothing to stop him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI never imagined that President Trump would declare himself King of America,\u201d Collins said, frowning. \u201cHe assured me that he wouldn\u2019t, and even though he\u2019s lied to me at least a hundred times already, I really thought this time was different. So this is, frankly, disappointing and unfortunate. On an unrelated note, I have decided to vote in favor of his kingship and trust that he will use the monarchy wisely and prudently.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, former Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell simply shrugged. \u201cSurely the Supreme Court full of his own picks will act as a check on his power. What more do we need?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s coronation plans remain unclear, but sources say he\u2019s already designing a solid gold throne, requesting a crown \u201ceven bigger than the Pope\u2019s hat,\u201d and demanding that Fox News refer to him as \u201cHis Supreme Excellency, Donald I.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
