What once brought joy, laughter, and perhaps many eye rolls to the central business district, now finds itself at the center of controversy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a short time on display, Clocktopus, as he is commonly referred to, has been given notice by the City to vacate&nbsp;the premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just so sad,\u201d cried Rita Goodman. \u201cClocktopus just brought a sense of quirkiness that we all admire about our city. I really worry we are losing our soul and turning into Bethesda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/takomatorch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Resized-Octopus-Photo-1-1.jpg?resize=232%2C348&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16\" width=\"232\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/takomatorch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Resized-Octopus-Photo-1-1.jpg?resize=682%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 682w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/takomatorch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Resized-Octopus-Photo-1-1.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/takomatorch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Resized-Octopus-Photo-1-1.jpg?resize=768%2C1153&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/takomatorch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Resized-Octopus-Photo-1-1.jpg?w=1154&amp;ssl=1 1154w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><figcaption>View of Clocktopus on Laurel Avenue<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though many residents didn\u2019t seem to mind Clocktopus hanging around, many found him to be offensive. \u201cThis Octopus shouldn\u2019t be on public grounds,\u201d exclaimed Betty Adams. \u201cIf we are going to allow an octopus to be here, then we need to have ALL animals represented equally!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other residents found fault with the color scheme of Clocktopus, claiming that the spectrum was exclusive of certain colors thus acting as a symbol of prejudice. Clocktopus is orange, yellow , green, and blue, which leaves out Red, Pink, Violet, Purple, Brown, Gray, Black, Aqua, Ochre, Fuchsia, Cerulean, Chartreuse, Cyan, and Magenta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many parents were concerned about the message this was sending to kids. \u201cYou know, when you actually think about it, this octopus represents a lot more than just a stuffed animal,\u201d stated Gary Felder. \u201cLook at his eyes \u2013 he\u2019s clearly high as a kite. And he\u2019s just loafing around on a clock, which is an obvious message that he is wasting time while high on the reefer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surprisingly, the City\u2019s lone Republican was also eager to kick Clocktopus out. \u201cI normally hate the government telling us what to do, but in this case, I agree completely,\u201d exclaimed Kyle Smith. \u201cLook at that lazy, good-fer-nuthin\u2019 bum\u2026Get a job!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Main Street Takoma is currently looking for a home for Clocktopus. They posted a competition this week on their page on Facebook, asking residents and employees in the city to write a personal story on what they would do with Clocktopus.
